14 Days Hike Mount Kilimanjaro & Tanzania Lodge Safari (Lemosho Route)
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport
Karibu and Welcome to Tanzania. We hope you will be excited to begin your Hike Mount Kilimanjaro as we are to show you beautiful Tanzania. Your Mj Safaris representative will be waiting for you with a sign at the airport with the flight details you have provided. You will be given a short trip briefing so you know what to expect on our way to your accommodation in Moshi.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (big tree)
After breakfast and briefing, drive to the Londorossi Park Gate. Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) and the overnight campsite.
Day 3: Shira 1 camp
After breakfast, we continue as the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone. Several streams are crossed then it gains the Shira Ridge
drops gently down to Shira 1 camp, located by a stream on the Shira Plateau.
Day 4: Shira 2 camp
After Breakfast, we will smoothly walk across the plateau to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of walks are available on the Plateau, making this an excellent acclimatization day.
Day 5: Barranco Hut
From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the Southeast towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.
Day 6: Karanga Valley
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley (4200m / 13,780 ft) campsite.
Day 7: Barafu Hut
After breakfast, we leave the Karanga Valley and pass the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue to the Barafu Hut, which is located at an altitude of 4600 meters (15,092 ft).
Day 8: Mweka Camp
Early morning, we continue our way to the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5985 meters (19,636 ft). This part of the climb takes about 6 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be quite warm by the end of the hiking day. You will want clothing for both extremes with you. At Uhuru Peak, we have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent, continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut Campsite.
Day 9: Mweka Park Gate to Moshi to the Hotel
After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi. Overnight at The Maridadi Hotel.
Day 10: Moshi to Tarangire National Park
You’ll depart from Arusha after breakfast for the approximately two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Along the way, you’ll pass bustling Maasai villages and the vast, open plains that have become synonymous with images of Africa. Tarangire National Park, where you could have a chance to see the groups of elephants. Dinner and overnight. Overnight at Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp.
Day 11: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
We’ll take an early breakfast, as we’ve got a big day of exploration and adventure in the Serengeti. Dinner and overnight in the heart of the Serengeti National Park according to the standard and the type of accommodation requested from our options. Overnight at Serengeti Heritage Camp.
Day 12: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, we get right on the road back towards the Ngorongoro Crater National Park. Our drive takes us back through the Serengeti via a different route, offering plenty of opportunities to spot the animals that eluded you on day two. As far as the eye can see, you’ll spot thousands upon thousands of animals in herds; wildebeests and zebras migrating together, tall and graceful giraffes, jumping antelopes and gazelles, the powerful African elephant, and the most respected group of animals: the predators. Overnight at Embalakai Ngorongoro Camp.
Day 13: Ngorongoro to Moshi Town
Early departure to drive down a steep track into the 600 m deep caldera to see a breathtaking range of animals and birds.
The caldera (collapsed volcano) is home to over 25,000 mammals, ranging from the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard)
and more than 500 species of birds. Once again, you will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park.
After a further afternoon game drive, you will return to Moshi, which marks the end of your safari. Overnight at The Maridadi Hotel.
Day 14: Airport Transfer
After breakfast, transfer to Kilimanjaro or Arusha Airport for a Zanzibar or international flight back home.
End of Trip in Moshi.
