Day 0: Arrival and Transfers

Pick-up at Kilimanjaro International Airport, then transfer to Moshi at the hotel you will stay. Your accommodation will be at Maridadi Hotel before and after the climbing. A tour briefing will be conducted at the lodge in Moshi by your guide and gear check up.

Day 1: Moshi – Londorossi Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m)

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. After a quick check-in and briefing, you’ll continue by vehicle to the trailhead. From there, you’ll start your hike through lush rainforest with the chance to see blue monkeys and colobus monkeys. After a few hours, you’ll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp for your first night under the stars.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)

Today, the trail climbs out of the rainforest and into moorland. You’ll notice the vegetation thinning out and the views opening up as you cross into the Shira Plateau — one of the most unique landscapes on Kilimanjaro. You’ll settle into Shira 1 Camp by late afternoon with sweeping views of the mountain behind you.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)

This is a shorter day — perfect for acclimatizing. You’ll make your way across the plateau to Shira 2 Camp. The route passes volcanic rock formations and unique high-altitude plants. Shira 2 offers beautiful sunsets and clear views of Mount Meru in the distance.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) to Moir Hut (4,200m)

You’ll continue across the plateau and gradually gain altitude as you move to Moir Hut — a quiet, less-traveled campsite tucked away in a valley. This area is excellent for extra acclimatization hikes if you arrive early, such as a short walk up Lent Hills.

Day 5: Acclimatization Day at Moir Hut (4,200m)

This is the key extra day that makes the 9 Days Northern Circuit Route so effective. You’ll stay at Moir Hut to allow your body more time to adjust to the altitude. A short acclimatization hike in the morning (like ascending Little Lent Hill) helps boost your chances of a successful summit later in the trek.

Day 6: Moir Hut (4,200m) to Buffalo (Pofu) Camp (4,020m)

Today, you climb up out of Moir Valley and join a remote trail that wraps around the northern slopes of Kilimanjaro. The views toward Kenya are vast and uninterrupted. After a steady day of hiking, you’ll reach Buffalo Camp (also known as Pofu Camp), set among rocks and open skies.

Day 7: Buffalo Camp (4,020m) to Rongai Third Cave Camp (3,800m)

A gentle day of hiking continues across Kilimanjaro’s wild northern flank. It’s remote and peaceful here — you’ll rarely see other trekkers. After a few hours of walking, you’ll arrive at Third Cave Camp, where you’ll rest before the final approach to base camp.

Day 8: Third Cave (3,800m) to School Hut (4,800m)

Today’s hike is all about gaining altitude and positioning yourself for summit night. You’ll cross the high desert saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, then settle in at School Hut — your final camp before the summit. It’s an early night tonight, as the push to the top begins just after midnight.

Day 9: Summit Day – School Hut (4,800m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,100m)

You’ll start your summit climb around midnight, following a steep trail to Gilman’s Point, then Stella Point, and finally Uhuru Peak — the roof of Africa. Watch the sunrise from the top before beginning your descent. After celebrating at the summit, you’ll make your way down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Day 10: Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,800m)

After breakfast, continue your descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. At the park exit, you will receive your summit certificates. From here, a vehicle will transfer you back to Moshi for a well-earned rest at your hotel.
