Mt. Meru climb Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival at Kilimanjaro (JRO) or Arusha (ARK)

You will be picked up from the Airport by a Mj Safaris Guide and driven to your accommodation in Arusha on a private transfer. In the late afternoon, our Guide will give you a pre-climb briefing and check your hiking gear. We will also confirm if you have the appropriate mandatory medical coverage and travel insurance.

Day 2 Arusha – Momella gate – Mariakamba Hut

Early in the morning, pick up from your hotel and drive to Arusha National Park. After finishing registration and other formalities at Momella gate, before setting off with our guide and armed ranger, there is abundant wildlife in the forests! The forest section is especially scenic, with strangler figs and the possibility of seeing buffalo grazing in one of the clearings. In the late afternoon, we reach a viewpoint before heading onto Miriakamba hut for dinner and staying overnight Miriakamba hut.

Day 3 Mariakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

We get off Miriakamba initially, still in the forest zone, but in a few hours, as we reach the Saddle hut for lunch in the alpine desert zone. In the afternoon, a walk to the summit of Little Meru can be taken for stunning views before heading back to Saddle Hut for dinner and overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 4 From Meru Summit to Saddle Hut to Momella Gate and back to Arusha

We wake up early for a pre-dawn start to reach Mount Meru’s summit (Socialist Peak) in time for sunrise. The trail climbs steeply along a narrow ridge, offering dramatic views of the crater and cliffs as the sun rises over Kilimanjaro in the distance. After taking in the summit views, we descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest and breakfast. Then, we continue the descent through the forest zone, passing Miriakamba Hut and arriving at Momella Gate. From there, it’s a 1-hour drive back to Arusha for a well-earned rest.
