12 Days Mt Kilimanjaro Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport

Karibu and Welcome to Tanzania. We hope you will be excited to begin your Adventure as we are to showing you beautiful Tanzania.
Your MJ Safaris representative will be waiting for you with a sign at the airport with the flight details you have provided.
You will be given a short trip briefing so you know what to expect on our way to your accommodation in Moshi.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree)

After breakfast and briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate. Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) and overnight campsite.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp

After breakfast, we continue as the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone.
Several streams are crossed before the trail reaches the Shira Ridge, then drops gently down to Shira 1 Camp located by a stream on the Shira Plateau.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp

After breakfast we walk smoothly across the plateau leading to Shira 2 Camp on moorland meadows by a stream.
A variety of walks are available on the Plateau making this an excellent acclimatization day.

Day 5: Barranco Hut

From the Shira Plateau, we continue east, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo.
Our direction then changes to the southeast toward the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.”
Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and overnight. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started,
this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.

Day 6: Karanga Valley

After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley (4,200 m / 13,780 ft) campsite.

Day 7: Barafu Hut

After breakfast, we leave the Karanga Valley and pass the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail.
We continue to the Barafu Hut, located at an altitude of 4,600 m (15,092 ft).
This is the base camp where we rest and prepare for the summit push.

Day 8: Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Early morning, we ascend to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,636 ft), the highest point in Africa.
This part of the climb takes about 6 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations,
but warm by the end of the hike. At Uhuru Peak, we celebrate reaching the Roof of Africa.
After photos, we descend straight down to the Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for overnight.

Day 9: Mweka Gate – Moshi

After breakfast, we continue the descent to the Mweka Park Gate. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy.
Gaiters and trekking poles will help. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka Village to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi.

Day 10: Moshi to Tarangire National Park

Depart from Arusha after breakfast for the approximately two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park.
Along the way, you’ll pass Maasai villages and the vast open plains. Tarangire is famous for large elephant herds.
Dinner and overnight at lodge.

Overnight at Marera View Lodge

Day 11: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

Early morning breakfast and depart for Ngorongoro Crater with picnic lunch.
Ngorongoro is home to the largest unbroken volcanic caldera in the world with over 25,000 animals including zebra, wildebeest,
lions, and black rhinos. Afternoon drive to Central Serengeti National Park.

Accommodation: Marera View Lodge

Day 12: Lake Manyara – Arusha

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara with picnic lunch. The park is small but diverse, with Rift Valley escarpment, forest,
and Lake habitat. It is home to elephants, hippos, wildebeest, baboons, and the famous tree-climbing lions.
After the game drive, return to Arusha.

End of Trip

End of trip in Arusha or Moshi. This marks the end of our 12 Days Kilimanjaro Lemosho & Safari itinerary.
