Kilimanjaro & Tanzania Safari
Detailed Full Itineray
Karibu and Welcome to Tanzania. We hope you will be excited to begin your Adventure as we are to show you beautiful Tanzania. Your Mj Safaris representative will be waiting for you with a sign at the airport with the flight details you have provided. You will be given a short trip briefing so you know what to expect on our way to your accommodation in Moshi.
After breakfast and briefing, drive to Londorossi Park Gate. Walk along forest trails to Mti Mkubwa (big tree) and an overnight campsite.
After breakfast, we continue as the trail gradually steepens and enters the giant heather moorland zone. Several streams are crossed, then it gains the Shira Ridge drops gently down to Shira 1 camp, located by a stream on the Shira Plateau.
After Breakfast, we will smoothly walk across the plateau that leads to Shira 2 camp on the moorland meadows by a stream. A variety of walks are available on the Plateau, making this an excellent acclimatization day.
From the Shira Plateau, we continue to the east, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the Southeast towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Here we rest, enjoy dinner, and spend the night. Although you end the day at the same elevation as when you started, this day is significant for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day.
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley (4200m / 13,780 ft) campsite.
After breakfast, we leave the Karanga Valley and pass the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue to the Barafu Hut, which is located at an altitude of 4600 meters (15,092 ft).
Early morning, we continue our way to the summit of Uhuru Peak at 5985 meters (19,636
ft). This part of the climb takes about 6 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be quite warm by the end of the hiking day. You will want clothing for both extremes with you. At Uhuru Peak, we have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent, continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut Campsite.
After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy). A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to Arusha/Moshi in your hotel.
Overnight in Moshi at the Maridadi Hotel
You’ll depart from Arusha after breakfast for the approximately two-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Along the way, you’ll pass bustling Maasai villages and the vast, open plains that have become synonymous with images of Africa. Tarangire National Park, where you could have a chance to see groups of elephants. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Overnight at Marera View Lodge
Early morning breakfast and depart for Ngorongoro Crater with picnic lunch. Ngorongoro is located between the Serengeti and Manyara National Park, and it is home to the famous volcanic crater that is the largest unbroken caldera in the World. There are 25,000larger animals within the Crater itself, mostly zebras and Wildebeests. However, this is undoubtedly the
best place to see Black rhinoceros in Tanzania as well as the pride of lion that includes black manned males. There are lots of colorful flamingoes and a variety of other water birds found in the Ngorongoro Crater. Late afternoon drive to the Central Serengeti National Park.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Marera View Lodge
After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara with a picnic lunch; game viewing
at the park. Lake Manyara is one of the most diverse of Tanzania’s
National Parks, a tiny (325km2) combination of Rift Valley, groundwater
forest, Lake, and dense woodland. Apart from the spectacular and diverse
birdlife of over 400 species, the park is also home to hippos, elephants,
baboons, wildebeest, and the peculiar tree-climbing lions. After an
extensive game drive through the park, you will leave the cascades of
flamingos.

What our customers say
Posted on Ryan MVerified Excellent service from start to finish Excellent service from start to finish and The best hotel in Moshi. Highly recommended forTours climbing KilimanjaroPosted on peter sVerified With my Brother and his family from the US, we had the most amazing 8-day Cultural Tanzania Safari in Tarangire, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Lake Eyasi with the Hadzabe Tribe. As a Tanzanian, I was amazed to have this experience and knowing that it is in my Country. We loved every moment and saw so many animals - the great migration, lion hunts, sleeping leopards, vultures eating, newborn zebra. It was SO exciting. We spent time in the tented camps, and it was magic. What made it extra special was our driver, "Yona," who had a great animal expertise, interesting stories, and was just nice to be around. We highly recommend that you ask for MJ Safaris & Adventure for your trip to Tanzania.Posted on C GVerified I booked only a few weeks before arriving into Tanzania, with so many options online it was really hard to decide on a company, but MJsafaris got back to me via email so quickly everytime I sent a question (and I had a lot!). I was travelling with a few friends and they left it to me to find a company, so pressure was on.After confirming our arrival, hotel in Moshi and route and safari (13 day combo, Machame route 6 days and Safari 5 days), the team at MJ looked after us so well! We met our guide in Moshi at the hotel the day before the climb, he went over the route day by day with us, he checked our gear, and reassured us with every question we had. Our guides and porter team looked after us so well on the mountain, we had a group with mixed paces, and having 2 guides was super helpful so we could walk at our own pace, and didn't feel pressured to keep up or slow down. Food was amazing as well, we always had plenty to go around, including the fresh fruits Moshi has to provide (taste so amazing) and local avocados which I fell in love with!Summit day is tough, but we all made it (100% success rate!), but really it wasn't us, it was the guides and the summit porter we had! Without them we would have given up after a few hours! After the trek we did a 5 day camping safari, it was basic, but there is something really incredible with camping in the Serengeti! The noises, the eyes! The camps were safe, food was all locked up and excpet for an elephant coming quite close we were not disturbed at all! We saw the big 5! The Cheetahs in the Serengeti were amazing, and do not miss the Ngorongoro Crater! As you can see, I cannot talk enough about our experience, but it definetly would not have happened without the team at Moshi! So a massive THANK YOU to Jackson, Noela, our amazing trek team (guides James and Nico!) and fantastic safari driver (who I swear had eyes at the back of his head! Nelly!)Posted on Nahimana BVerified Mj Safaris We had an incredible adventure on our safari combining Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Every part of the trip was well organized, and we were amazed by the variety of landscapes and wildlife we encountered.Tarangire was a wonderful surprise: a quieter park with a truly wild and peaceful atmosphere. We saw dozens of elephants, sometimes just a few meters from the vehicle! The iconic baobab trees give the park a unique and almost magical feel.Ngorongoro Crater, on the other hand, was absolutely breathtaking. Descending into this vast caldera, surrounded by lush cliffs, felt like entering another world. We were lucky enough to see the Big Five, including a rare black rhino! The density of wildlife in such a small area is simply stunning. Our guide was exceptional – knowledgeable, passionate, and always attentive. Thanks to him, we learned so much about the animals, the plants, and the local culture.Posted on Matthieu DVerified Mj safaris and adventure We had an absolutely extraordinary safari with MJ Safaris & Adventure in the Serengeti Park. From the first contact, the team was very professional, responsive and attentive to our desires. Everything was perfectly organized, from airport transfers to our return, with special attention to our comfort and safety. Our guide was passionate, very competent and had an incredible eye for spotting animals. Thanks to him, we were able to observe the Big Five and much more, in ideal conditions. He took the time to explain the fauna, flora and peculiarities of the park, which enriched our experience. The lodges and campsites chosen were all charming, comfortable and conveniently located. Special mention for meals, always delicious and varied!MJ Safaris & Adventure has managed to offer us an authentic adventure, rich in emotions and perfectly framed. If you dream of a safari in Serengeti, do not hesitate for a second: this agency is a safe and high quality choice.Thank you again for these magical memories!Posted on רון דVerified ...It was great.. don't think twice m.j. they do it great... A fascinating safari experience.. The guide showed his skills and enhanced the experience.. The food and sleeping arrangements were organized and scheduled thoroughly and satisfactorily.. Highly recommended. We plan to return to 💪❤️💪❤️Posted on Wenxiao ZVerified 100% recommended I had an unforgettable adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro with MJ Safaris. This was my first long trek and the highest altitude I’ve ever been to. However, thanks to the incredible team, I was able to complete the trek and enjoy every moment of it.A huge thank you to my guide, Silvano. He was exceptional at pacing, ensuring we took breaks at the right moments, which was especially important given the challenging nature of the trek. He was also incredibly knowledgeable, knowing every tree and flower on the mountain. His passion for climbing and nature was truly inspiring, and it kept me going, not just on Kilimanjaro, but in my future mountain adventures as well. The climbing crew was incredibly kind and encouraging, which made the trek feel like a team effort. Every day, I was greeted with warm smiles. The porter boys climbed incredibly fast and always helped find the best spots to set up camp. The food and camping equipment provided by MJ Safaris were the best at the campsite—not only for me but also for the climbing crew. It’s clear that MJ Safaris truly values the well-being of their staff, which made the entire experience feel even more supportive and comfortable. Additionally, the logistics were flawless. The pick-up and accommodation arrangements before and after the tour were well-organized, ensuring a seamless experience from start to finish.Without the support of the MJ Safaris, I would not have been able to complete the trek. I highly recommend MJ Safaris to anyone looking to embark on an unforgettable adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro.Posted on Melinda JVerified Amazing guide, porters, front end communication; unforgettable experience Absolutely amazing experience from beginning to end thanks to our wonderful guides, James and Deo, incredible porters (Martin, Ibrahim, Peterson, Frank, Tade, Pregor, Roman, Mowazu, and Shidrik, sorry if I spelled some of the names wrong!), and extremely helpful frontend coordinators (Noela and Jackson). Our guides and porters were some of the kindest, most helpful people we’ve met, consistently going above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, happy, and healthy. This exceeded all of our expectations! We felt so taken care of on Kilimanjaro. Tade’s amazing cooking, Pregor’s unexpected but extremely considerate gestures (drying our smelly shoes and clothes, airing out our tablecloth, etc.), the continual optimism, positivity, and kindness emanating from the rest of the team, and the remarkable ability of Deo and James to keep our spirits high and energy up—carrying my sister’s daypack, our poles, giving me plastic bags for my shoes to prevent them from getting soaked, singing songs, teaching us Swahili, cracking jokes, being patient, perceptive, and caring throughout—were all highlights of this trip, perhaps even more than the beautiful views or the summit itself! Many thanks for such an incredible opportunity, asante sana!Posted on Rose BVerified All did great, the team was awesome Both Godfrey and Chrispin looked for opportunities to make sure our trip was a success , our cook was excellent, kind and professionalPosted on Meredith BVerified Amazing!!! Had an amazing experience with Man-Man and Tom hiking the Lemosho trail up to Mount Kilimanjaro. They were so fun and informative! We made it to the summit with no problem because of their expertise. Would highly recommend MJ Safaris! Jackson did a great job with the front end logistics. Would definitely use the company again!
